It's hard to believe we have been in England for nearly a week.
I have no idea where the time has gone; but we have been using every single second, that's for sure!

We made our way to the Lake District from Manchester airport, thinking how strange it was to be on the 'wrong' side of the road, and wincing at the unfamiliar brightness of the yellow number plates on the back of the cars.
The past few times we have returned to England, it has been winter - or at least the back end of winter - but the English summer did not disappoint, and we were greeted with sunshine which then went on to last the next few days. This glowing weather made the English countryside look even more beautiful. The variety of trees, plants and grasses strikes us as something unique about this country, and something which we miss greatly.

We spent our first night at The Samling, a hotel overlooking Lake Windermere and a place very close to our hearts, having spent our wedding night there.
From our room we had a spectacular view overlooking the lake:

And, with both the evening meal and breakfast being served in our room, we had no reason to move.
So we didn't.
Having hardly slept on the plane, we were looking forward to catching up on zeds.
This, however, did not go to plan.
It went more as follows:
R: "Are you awake?"
T: "Erm..."
R: "I'm wide awake"
T: "I guess I am too then..."
R: "Are you hot? I'm hot"
T: "Do you want me to get up and open the window"
R: "Yes please!"
An hour or so of rambling and then...
zzz...zzzZZZ...
Someone was letting me know he had got off to sleep!

On Friday, groggy from jet lag and limited sleep - ahem - we had a walk around Grasmere, soon leaving the crowds of foreign tourists behind as we diverted from the village centre and made our way around the lake.
The scenery, again, was breathtaking

It really is a case of not appreciating it when it was on my doorstep, and now, going back, it is a very special thing to have on my - parents - doorstep!
Talking of which, the next three nights were spent with my parents.
Not that we saw all that much of them, as we were busy catching up with people. Literally all day long.
Tiring, but it was fantastic to see everyone, and we managed to meet up with people we had missed the past couple of times!

Next stop: The Wirral.
We tired to bring the sun with us, but after the first night it disappeared. Still, for England, four and a half days was not bad going!!
