Forget me nots symbolize: True love, memories, hope and remembrance.
T and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary this week!
I cannot believe how fast the time has gone! Looking back, we have packed a fair amount into those three years; including living in three different countries, and visiting another ten countries. We have welcomed new members to the family, and we have had to say goodbye to others. We have planned, we have left things to chance. We have learnt, and have experienced a great deal. Together.
I stumbled across the meaning of the pretty blue flower by chance, and it seemed to sum up exactly what we wanted our wedding day to be about: it was never about showing off, or trying to eclipsing other peoples' weddings; it was about us committing to each other infront of close family and friends. It was, ultimately, about our true love. The memories of our past together, and the hope of many more in the years to come. Also, remembering the very special people who were sadly no longer with us. x
Following that discovery, the theme for the wedding was set: it would be Forget me nots all the way! From the invitations to the napkins, the buttonholes to the cake, these beautiful little flowers featured heavily all through the day, and will therefore always have a very special place in my heart.
For the past three years we have been in England on this date, and it felt weird not being there again this year to be honest.
We were in England for the wedding itself, of course. That always helps - although, joking aside, we were very nearly not there for our wedding, thanks to the volcanic ash cloud disrupting airspace over Europe. Living in Sevilla at the time, we endured a whole nightmare of cancelled flights: back for dress fittings, hen and stag dos, et cetera.... Yup, the planning of our wedding is a long story for another time... I will just say for now, with hindsight, I would not recommend planning a wedding in England whilst you move from Germany to Spain...

Then on our first anniversary, T surprised me with a trip back to the hotel in the Lake District where we had spent our wedding night. I was horrified for a fleeting moment when I realized the destination of the flight was not somewhere hot and sunny, but a wet and grey Manchester....
Last year, our second anniversary fell in between two family birthdays we needed to be in England for, so we enjoyed a week being 'foreign tourists' in the Cotswolds. T surprised me with a night in a hotel I had been wanting to stay in for years but never ever thought I would be lucky enough to.
I feared Forget me nots didn't exist in Canada, as I hadn't seen any around, but on our coffee-walk on Sunday we passed a garden full of the little flowers!
Doing some researching on them, I discovered they are worn as a symbol of remembrance in Newfoundland and Labrador, like we wear the poppy. So they do play a very large role in certain Canadian provinces.
All week on my potters about I have seen more blue clusters dotted amongst the tulips and lily of the valley. So, we may not have been able to spend the day in England, but at least we have Forget me nots!
