We had a bank holiday on Monday: the Queen's Birthday. (Her actual birthday is in April, but Australia celebrates it on the 2nd Monday in June - except Western Australia, who celebrates in on the 1st Monday in June...). Each commonwealth country seems to celebrate it on a different date: In Canada it is the Monday before 25th May.
It is the whale season, so we went looking for whales...wherelse but at Whale Beach. We didn't see any, and what made it even more frustrating, was on the news that evening they showed quite a few whales in that area - but the news crew had been on a boat, which gives them quite an advantage! It was disappointing though - my mission this winter is to see a whale!
Albie and Ralph had a little more luck with their cockatoo watching...
We came across this pretty magnificent Moreton Bay fig tree the other day. Whilst I was researching as to what type of tree it was, I randomly came across an article on this actual tree - apparently 3 years ago a branch from it fell on a woman's head and she was carted off to hospital. There were calls to cut the 100-year old tree down, but it is most definitely still standing.
It is exactly one year since our stuff set off on it's 5-month journey from Montreal to Sydney. Crikey, that seems a very long time ago...!
