The rain has been non stop this week. Summer dresses and sandals have been replaced by jackets and big waterproof boots...
The rugby world cup 2015 is over. England being knocked out early on made it easy for us to choose a team to support, but Australia was beaten in the final by New Zealand. They weren't the easiest matches to watch, most being aired around 3am thanks to the time difference. Due to the beauty of technology we were able to record them, but then had to avoid listening to the radio, read the papers or watch the news until we got a chance to watch them.
We were just finishing eating on Monday evening, when there was this almighty commotion on the balcony. We switched on the light to see Albie and Ralph dancing around a large green bug, not quite sure whether to play with it, or run away from it. To my amazement, both cats left it on my instructions, and I was able to shut the boys inside and lift the fat-headed thing to safety. The insect was a Cicada, this particular species is called 'The Greengrocer', one of the most common of the estimated 700 - 1000 species in Australia (less than 300 have actually been officially named). Cicada's are the loudest insect, and can apparently be heard from 2-4km away. No wonder it wasn't going down without a fight!
We decided to re-arrange the office - my desk previously faced the wall, which was far from inspiring. It should only take a few minutes, we thought... After an hour, it was done. As we were moving T's desk, there was this splintering sound and the thing collapsed, sending computers, monitors etc crashing to the ground. Nothing was broken thankfully, but it meant we had to repair the desk before we could get back to work. Putting up some extra much needed storage in the afternoon, I had some help - not 100% useful, as the 'help' tried to chew the dowel, and then Albie got jealous as he wanted to help, and they started to fight, on the pieces I still had to assemble.
Yes, they have been very 'helpful' this week, Albie even assisting me by taking the washing off the dryer...
