It has been a strange year in the way of seasons for us: In the last nine months, we have had five official months of winter (I say 'official' because it felt like more than five months with the temperatures...)
We left Canada a couple of days before summer began, enjoyed ten days of summer in the UK (where the sun actually shone!): before then being plunged back into winter in Australia...
Sydney was kind to us in those first few weeks:

And it was a pretty fake winter, especially by our new Canadian standards...
It wasn't all sunshine though - it has rained.
Quite a bit in fact - the month of August was the wettest for sixteen years or so.
See, dark clouds are rolling in:

The last official day of winter was twenty degrees and blue skies:
On all our moves, some things have been the same, including the seasons: December = winter; August = summer.

I automatically keep thinking summer is nearly over and feel a little cheated. We haven't had any long balmy sunny evenings, no nights struggling to sleep in a hot and humid bedroom, no glowing tan...
It feels very strange going into the month of September and not thinking about wrapping up warm, shorter days, and cooking warm dishes such as stews and soups.
The fashions in the shops are all bikinis and summer dresses, rather than the wooly jumpers and thick scarves.
The evenings are drawing out and I am bookmarking barbecue recipes and salads rather than hearty warming fare.

For those of you bracing yourselves for the cold, I apologize in advance if I happen to mention going sitting on the beach whilst you are shivering and battling with the snow. Rest assured, I will definitely be thinking of you!
